Set foot inside any space with a striking rug, and chances are it is the first item to draw and hold your attention, tying a room together in a way that few other pieces do. At once functional and decorative, a rug serves as an extension of the sofa, a place to lounge on, as an accessory to designate an area, or to fill another that’s empty and bare.
The choice and variety of rugs are endless – so we’ve selected some that deliver superior craftmanship, fine fabrics and striking floor patterns that make for lasting designs.
Laguna by La Maison Pierre Frey
French interiors brand Pierre Frey, available locally at Camilleri Paris Mode, designed the Laguna rug to reflect the legendary beauty of the Venetian lagoon, an enclosed bay in the Adriatic Sea. Described as a scene between sky and water, the rug’s striking gradation is created through dozens of colourful blended yarns of wool, hand-knotted in Nepal using traditional methods.
Izra by Salam Hello
The philosophy of Salam Hello is to share the tradition and artistry of the Moroccan Amazigh weaving tradition and connect with every artisan involved in the creation of these handmade rugs, including Izra, which is the culmination of thousands of woollen knots irregularly woven together by 25 artisans, composed of wool that is dyed with a blend of natural florals and spices.
Dune by Ward + Gray
Composed of a blend of hemp and jute with a hand-knotted New Zealand wool shag pile overlay, the Dune rug by interior design duo Ward + Gray was originally designed for an ocean-front residence, designed around “the notion of drawing circles in the sand on a warm day, shielded by the dunes, salt in the air and sun above.”
Loops by Nordic Knots
Giancarlo Valle’s handmade collection of rugs for Nordic Knots includes Loops, a rug crafted from New Zealand wool, decorated with playful motifs and finished with a cut-out corner design. Simultaneously ornate and organic, the motifs are inspired by the hand-painted furniture of the designer’s family home in Latin America merged with influences from Nordic folklore art.
Animalia by The Rug Company
A collaboration between fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg and The Rug Company delivered a collection of rugs, On the Wild Side, that drew inspiration from the iconic designer’s archive of patterns. Each rug is a signature dress transposed into a rug design, including Animalia, an animal motif in a fluid, swirling design, made from a mix of wool and silk in indigo and cobalt hues.
Royal Peacock by Designer Rugs

Catherine Martin’s The Menagerie Collection for rug company Designer Rugs celebrates rich colours, dense and ornate foliage, animal prints and floral patterns intertwined into vibrant and individual designs. Among them is the Royal Peacock rug, where the exotic birds rest amidst heliconia palms, showcasing the expert hand-knotting of Tibetan wool artisans.
