After hours spent planning, preparing, whisking and baking, there’s nothing more rewarding than putting your feet up, warm or warming drink in hand, on your favourite armchair, sofa or even in bed, snuggled under a cosy throw while the fragrance of your favourite scented candle spreads throughout your home.
This time of year calls for all things cosy, from the linens on our beds to the slippers on our feet. As the final part of our Christmas editorial, following our home decor and dining table styling ideas, we present the living spaces edition, featuring visuals that aim to inspire your own living environments.
Shot on location at the Camilleri Paris Mode flagship store in Rabat, we were drawn to this Vispring bed, set with fine linen sheets and completed with a faux fur throw – an ideal cover for adding a sumptuous and tactile layer to your bed or sofa.
Interior designer and stylist Enrica DeGabriele shares suggestions for achieving a similar effect at home. “To instil a sense of warmth around the house, I like to make small yet effective changes, such as throwing a faux fur warmer or knitted blanket on a sofa or at the end of the bed, placing small bowls of sweets or chocolates that may give us a sense of nostalgia of past festive seasons.”
And of course, candle light. The warm flame, the scent of burning wick and that soft, soothing glow create an unmistakably restful and inviting atmosphere that we yearn for throughout winter.
“Candles instantly change a mood and spread a sense of Hygge (the Danish term for cozy and warm),” says Enrica. “I like to have scented candles around the house but love lighting candle sticks in the evening, as the flame creates a glowing ambience.”
From a lush wreath to a decorative stocking – pictured above is an in-house made stocking composed of fabrics off-cuts from discontinued sample books by the store’s atelier – simple adornments around the house can go a long way in spreading a sense of warmth and tenderness this season.
