As the newest beach club to complement Ghadira Bay’s amenities, Costa del Sole has brought a dose of stylish tranquillity to the popular bay through a harmonious design that synchronises with its surroundings.
Architecture and design studio DAAA Haus was engaged to revitalise the existing beach club with a complete interior and architectural refurbishment, from the front-of-house to the food preparation area, as well as the beach club sun loungers. The studio turned to its very surroundings for inspiration, opting for natural and organic materials that blend seamlessly with the nearby coast.
“Stepping into the lido, the integration of natural elements is instantly apparent. Organic materials such as wood, stone, and bamboo exude a warm and earthy ambiance. Large windows and open spaces invite the breathtaking coastal scenery inside, blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors.”
Soft hues inspired by the sandy beach and its clear waters dominate the colour palette, which contribute towards the tranquil atmosphere achieved by the lido’s design – linen fabrics in terracotta, blue hues for cushions and tables, and clay-coloured chairs.
Rattan pendant lights and a bamboo cane roof embellish the lido’s ceiling, while succulent plants add a layer of rich green tones to the space.
As guests venture further, the back-of-house reveals a meticulously designed technical kitchen. “DAAA Haus incorporated state-of-the-art equipment, ensuring optimal functionality for the culinary team,” the studio explains.
“In spite of that, it is the sustainable and eco-friendly materials that steal the spotlight. Recycled and upcycled elements merge with the rustic aesthetic of the lido, showcasing the studio’s commitment to honoring the natural surroundings.”
Through Costa Del Sole, the studio has created an interior and architectural intervention that is visually pleasing and respectful of the site’s location.
“The use of natural and eco-friendly materials, combined with the integration of the Mediterranean landscape creates a cohesive and immersive experience,” the team says.
“This beach lido in Mellieha now stands as one of the testaments to DAAA Haus’ ability to blend contemporary design with a deep appreciation for the environment, offering visitors an idyllic escape where they can savour comfort foods in harmony with nature.”
