AP Valletta is laying the foundations for a new generation of leadership within its practice as it announces the promotion of seven of the studio’s directors to partners and associate partners, strengthening and diversifying its leadership team.
The practice was founded by David Felice and Konrad Buhagiar 34 years ago, and has led the design and regeneration of several prolific sites and landmarks around the island.
The new partners will work alongside the founders, together with Chris Mifsud, who joined as a non-executive partner, replacing former director Reinhold Karner.
Charles Sciberras, Danica Cachia Mifsud, Rosanne Asciak, Simone Vella Lenicker and Rory Apap Brown previously served as Design Directors, responsible for running the studio’s project teams.
Erica Giusta, as Director of Innovation, steered the studio’s research into heritage innovation as well as its expansion overseas, while Jacques Borg Barthet, as Director of Practice, oversaw project management and coordination of urban projects.
AP notes how “their promotion ensures the leadership remains closely tied to the studio team.”
“AP Valletta’s evolution has always been about sticking to its principles. New leadership means more incisiveness and rounded thinking around those principles,” David and Konrad note. “We have all been working together for years, shaping our shared ideas for the built environment. It’s a moment of celebration that we are now entering this new chapter of the practice’s lifespan together.”
The practice has been based in Valletta since its inception, and “in its long-standing role as an incubator for thinking, writing, speaking and designing, AP Valletta remains focused on addressing this century’s most pressing urban problems through all its projects.”
“The practice works to understand how urban life impacts human progression, and how the architectural profession is best placed to shape it.”
