The giant orb hovering on Las Vegas’ skyline has opened its doors to visitors, offering concert-goers an innovative experience at this new entertainment venue that has captured imaginations across the globe.
With its futuristic design that can project any visual imaginable on its exterior, the Sphere, which can host around 18,000 people, is being described as “living architecture”.
On the outside, the structure is coated in LED pucks, 1.2 million of them, each of which contain 48 individual LEDs that allow for the Sphere to be illuminated with any visual, from the moon to a tennis ball to an explosion of fireworks.
The venue was designed by architecture studio Populous – known for designing stadiums, arenas and entertainment venues around the world – for Madison Square Garden Entertainment. At over 100 metres tall and 150 metres wide, Sphere is being hailed as the world’s largest spherical structure.

Inside, the theatre is hollow with a stage at the lower level that, flanked by an LED screen that wraps around the audience members within, and is reportedly the world’s largest and highest resolution.
The venue cost around €2million and took around seven years to complete. It opened its doors last weekend with a concert by Irish band U2, and will be followed by the premiere of Darren Aronofsky’s film, Postcard from Earth.
