The Chapels gastropub, located within the Farsons Brewhouse, exudes character from every corner. Be it the name of the place itself and its punny neon signage, the warm colours that draw from the original copper vessels located on the premises, or the outdoor space decorated with festoon lights, the design of The Chapels emphasises conviviality.

This recently added establishment within The Brewhouse’s vast offering is located inside an area that once housed the brewery’s cooling system, but design studio DAAA Haus has given its interiors a new lease on life, in collaboration with branding experts BRND WGN who created its lively persona.
“It has undergone a remarkable transformation into a dynamic brewery and beer garden, breathing new life into its historical setting,” DAAA Haus says. The Chapels is divided into three zones, each with its own function and contribution to the overall charm and ambiance of this hangout.
The first zone is comprised of the chapel rooms, which take their name from the bar itself. “Originally designed for cooling purposes, they used to house copper vessels utilised in crafting Farsons’ renowned brews,” says DAAA Haus.
“The architectural design of these rooms draws inspiration from cathedral aesthetics, with a focus on maintaining the Gothic style. The cathedral-like ceiling is enhanced with subtle indirect lighting, highlighting its unique features.”

A mural by artist Anna Aloisio adorns the vaulted ceiling, depicting what The Chapels is best known for (food, fun times and of course beer) and creating a striking focal point in the space. It represents the traditional stained-glass patterns found in churches and cathedrals, “immersing visitors in an engaging atmosphere that pays homage to the brewery’s heritage”.

The microbrewery and centrepiece bar mark another zone within the gastropub. The centrepiece bar is distinguished by its curved ceiling adorned with copper cladding. “This space is home to a microbrewery where daily beers are produced, featuring labels inspired by the iconic chapels. The copper tanks are seamlessly integrated into the bar area, and a self-pour system provides a unique interactive experience for patrons.”

Adjacent to the microbrewery is a meticulously restored piece of machinery from the old microbrewery, which stands as a nostalgic reminder of the past. “The overall design combines industrial elements like corrugated metal and metal mesh with warm tones, solid wood, and comfortable furnishings,” the studio says.

Last but certainly not least is the terrace, an expansive outdoor space with panoramic views, embellished with greenery, various seating options and open spaces.

“The seating arrangements include modular wooden benches, colourful chairs and loungers that cater for different preferences and occasions. The terrace is equally charming during the day as it is at night, with the addition of playful and romantic incandescent festoon lights enhancing the ambiance after sunset.”

Occupying a section of the terrace is a bar, or rather a converted delivery truck, which was restored and repurposed. “It is an intriguing aspect of The Chapels, which is an original relic from Farsons’ history and incorporated as a central feature of the establishment,” the studio says. “Efforts were made to preserve the bar’s original features while incorporating a mix of retro signage that complements the overall décor.”
