Ruby Hotels & Workspaces has announced its first hospitality offering in Malta with a hotel in Valletta, scheduled to open its doors in 2026.
The project will comprise the conversion of several historic buildings on Strait Street, offering guests “a harmonious blend of inspiring design and relaxed elegance in a UNESCO World Heritage Site.”
“It is truly remarkable to implement a project of this scale in such a granularly and densely built city like Valletta,” the hotel chain shared.
Ruby – which debuted its brand in Malta through Ruby Ninu co-working space at Pendergardens – is present in several European cities, including London, Vienna and Zurich. From “80s kitsch to haute couture, royalty to reportage”, it prides itself on supporting all things local, including “a unique story and design” for each hotel, rooted in the city it calls home.
This made Valletta the natural choice for its first hotel in Malta, not least for its “stunning limestone architecture”, charming streets as well as its “diverse, lively and creative gastronomical scene.”
It will enjoy a prime location, public areas on the ground floor, a rooftop terrace featuring a swimming pool and all-day bar “offering unparalleled views of the sea and the city’s skyline including Valletta’s famous St Paul’s Cathedral and Fort St Elmo. The spaces are designed to serve as lively social hubs, providing guests with unforgettable experiences.”
Three adjoining historic buildings, some dating back to the 16th century, set the tone for the fabric of this hotel. “Renovated with careful attention to detail, the space exudes character and individuality, affording visitors with an authentic and immersive experience of the city’s heritage.”
Ruby is partnering with VBL Group – a real estate development company with an exclusive focus on Valletta – to execute its vision.
Andrei Imbroll, Co-Founder and CEO of VBL Group, says partnering with Ruby was “the last piece of the puzzle” for what is meant to become the most iconic building and landmark in the capital city.
“Ruby is a partner who deeply understands and respects the history and value of every piece of stone within this building while having a firm eye on what lies ahead in the international hospitality industry. We look forward to a mutually fruitful relationship for decades to come.”
