Artist Philippa Bianchi, who has painted the official portraits of a number of Malta’s presidents and prime ministers, launched her first collection of home furnishings with a range of hand-painted lampshades.
Featured in the collection are geometric patterns painted in rich tones of red, ochre, burnt orange and blue, reminiscent of the opulent upholstery and tapestries seen in Malta’s grand palazzos, as well as designs inspired by local flora and fauna.

The artist describes the range as one that “brings light to our heritage and natural beauty”, and was recently commissioned to create bespoke lampshades for the new interiors of the renovated restaurant at Palazzo Parisio, for which she drew inspiration from its abundant gardens.
Philippa is no stranger to the local and international art scene, with a vast portfolio of portraiture that includes the former Pope Benedict XVI and archbishop Paul Cremona, philanthropist and art collector, Lady Natalie Milbank, and Chairman of Corinthia Group, Alfred Pisani.
