Eminent French designer, architect and creator, Philippe Starck, lent his creative genius to beverage brand Perrier on the occasion of its 160th anniversary, reimagining the green glass bottle into a distinct object.
The limited-edition PERRIER + STARCK, available at Farsonsdirect, is described by Perrier as a “unique creative object, both remarkable and elegant, without compromise to its iconic shape.”
“Taking inspiration from Fresnel’s optical lens design and the way it diffracts light, the thin horizontal streaks carved into the glass surface of the PERRIER + STARCK bottle create visual interest through a play on optics and light, illuminating the tremendous energy source and poetry contained within its bubbles.”
Starck expressed his emotional connection to the brand, saying since he was born, Perrier was always on the table during family gatherings. “It was something special, luxurious, joyful. That’s why I have such a strong sentimental relation with this bottle.”
The ridges around the bottle create “an optical game and a small mystery,” he explains. “I tried to increase the sentimentality, the emotion between me and the bottle. I hope it will forever bring me what it did as a child – joy.”
Starck’s inventive creativity spans from industrial architecture and interior design to the household objects, furniture and vehicles. He famously said, “Whether it’s a toothbrush, an airplane or a chair, it’s always the same philosophy: to think about what the user will gain.”
