In the heart of Romania’s capital, an architectural gem located at the crossroads of Calea Victoriei and Elisabeta Boulevard has been revived and reimagined as Corinthia Bucharest, the latest in a string of historically-located Corinthia hotels around the globe.
Following the opening of two landmark hotels by the group last year – The Surrey in Manhattan, a beacon of the New York hotel scene since the 1920s, and the Grand Hotel Astoria in Brussels, housed within an early 20th century building – comes Corinthia Bucharest, housed within the Grand Hotel du Boulevard, dating back to 1867.
“Its gilded halls and artfully restored spaces embody a bygone era of elegance. Imbued with the spirit of Savoir Flair, this is a place where avant-garde creativity meets timeless glamour, a home for visionaries and connoisseurs alike,” the Corinthia team notes.
When the Grand Hotel du Boulevard, designed by Alexandru Orăscu, opened in 1873 it was immediately distinguished as a landmark in the city, standing out for its neoclassical elegance and comforts, even back then.
Fast forward more than a century later, its charm has been retained and amplified under the wing of Corinthia – from its timelessly designed rooms with perfectly-framed views of city streets and architecture to a spa on the fourth floor inspired by Romania’s rich landscapes.
As for its culinary offering, the Bucharest hotel is home to the cosy Heritage Bar with plush seating and a marble fireplace at its heart; the stunning Boulevard 73, where diners are seated within an Art Nouveau ballroom and surrounded by gilded arches, lavish chandeliers and elaborate frescoes; and lastly SASS’ Restaurant & Lounge, which brings the glamour of the Monaco-based brand to the heart of Bucharest.
