In the last six years alone, outdoor spaces have proven their value as essential, year-round extensions of the home, no matter how large or small – fuelling a need to either carve out a space that previously didn’t exist, or design a home with it in mind.
Increasingly, such design has skewed towards a seamless aesthetic, where internal and external spaces carry a sense of continuity – be it through expansive glass doors and retractable walls that provide a direct line of sight to outside, or by way of furniture that emulates the comforts experienced indoors.
“Outdoor living has changed dramatically,” says Katia Vassallo Cesareo, Brand Director at Domestica and the driving force behind product selection and collections. “People want the same comfort and design outdoors that they have inside. The line between interior and exterior has softened.”
Extending the home beyond its walls
For over 50 years, Domestica’s story has been one of deliberate evolution, guided by an understanding of how people actually live. “Long before ‘curated living’ became a design buzzword, the brand was grounded in fundamentals: craftsmanship, quality materials, and furniture made to last,” says Katia.
The company began as a furniture manufacturer, producing pieces for both domestic and contract use. Those early years shaped the company’s DNA, and an intimate knowledge of construction, proportion and durability informed everything that followed, creating pieces that are passed down through generations.
“Manufacturing taught us to respect the product. When you understand how something is made, you’re far more selective about what you choose to represent.”
As lifestyles evolved, so did expectations of the home. Clients were no longer searching for individual pieces, but for spaces that felt cohesive and considered. Domestica responded by expanding into the importation of furniture, beginning with the core elements of everyday living – sofas, kitchens, and bedrooms. Select European brands allowed the company to broaden its design language while remaining faithful to its standards of quality, function, and longevity.
“For us, importing was never about volume,” Katia explains. “It was about complementing what we already knew – bringing in pieces that felt honest, well-designed, and relevant to the way people live today.”
An expanding vision
Interiors are shaped as much by their details as by their anchor pieces, says Katia, prompting Domestica to gradually introduce accessories and complementary furnishings – including rugs, carpets, mirrors, lighting, storage, and entrance hall furniture, allowing spaces to be layered with texture, atmosphere, and personality.
“Everyday rituals also found their place within this approach, from coffee moments using a Rocket Espresso machine to informal seating on an Egoitaliano sofa, reinforcing the idea of the home as a lived-in experience rather than a styled concept,” she notes.
“Accessories are often underestimated, but they’re what make a home feel finished. They allow people to express themselves without redesigning an entire room.”
Today, Domestica takes its next step with the launch of its outdoor furniture collection which reflects a broader shift in how homes are experienced. “Terraces, gardens, and balconies are no longer secondary spaces, but extensions of daily life used for entertaining, unwinding, and gathering,” says Katia.
The outdoor collection brings together three distinct brands, each selected for quality, durability, and aesthetic clarity. Castleline offers elegant, versatile pieces suited to both residential and hospitality settings. Jati-Kebon introduces refined luxury through premium materials and craftsmanship, while Zuiver adds a contemporary, design-forward edge, ideal for outdoor spaces that mirror interior sensibilities.
“Under the leadership of Managing Director Chris Vassallo Cesareo, Domestica continues to evolve with a long-term vision rooted in craftsmanship, design integrity, and collaboration – working closely with international suppliers, designers, and partners who share the same values.”
