Adjacent to Santa Lucija’s landmark Serenity Garden is a new and complementary urban garden that transformed a previously abandoned site into a thriving green space.
Spanning across 2,300sqm, the newly inaugurated Gnien L-Iskultura – which forms part of Government’s Project Green initiative to bring more open spaces to local communities – continues with the adjacent oriental theme.
Among its many features are an iron bridge crossing over a pond inhabited by koi, an Orient-inspired pavilion and shade-providing structures in a bright red tone, associated with life-generating energy in Chinese culture.
“As with every project we work on, we ensured that Ġnien l-Iskultura would be accessible to everyone. More than that, it serves as a continuation of the adjacent garden,” said Beverley Costa, Project Green’s COO, referencing the Oriental theme.
Designed by Doric Studio, the project transformed a once-forgotten site “into a vibrant sculpture garden and lush oasis”, in which 38 new trees were planted.
“By thoughtfully designing around existing mature trees and introducing additional planting, we’ve created a calming space filled with dappled light, gentle sounds of water, and rich greenery. Its not just beautiful its alive,” the studio notes.
