As one of the younger eateries in the area, Kingsway, which recently opened a second spot in Balluta, has quickly carved out its place along the Sliema/St Julian’s promenade. The royal blue and gold branding cuts a stark figure, building on the style that set it on a course for success back in 2017 with the original cafe in Republic Street.
With a larger footprint and different concept to its Valletta counterpart, the design of Kingsway Balluta reflects an evolved brand that embraces its location close to the party scene of Paceville, with a sophisticated approach.
Designed by DAAA Haus, the team took cues from the brand’s aesthetic, expanding it into one that is suitable for a fine-dining restaurant as well as a drinks and cocktail bar, and a dedicated space for a DJ.
Velvet booths, a whimsical wall covering and an imposing bar bring bursts of blue to the space, balanced out by neutral walls, marble and parquet flooring, and gold accents in the dining tables, chairs and wall lights.
Kingsway’s art-deco character is felt in the details, not least the chandelier and mirror wall decor, accentuated by playful wall art, neon signs and disco lights for the late-night parties.
