Uniting various design disciplines spanning from architecture to fashion to product design, the first edition of designMT Expo has kicked off today, featuring a diverse display of contemporary design “honouring our rich heritage while exploring innovative advancements in the field,” said Arts Council Malta, which is supporting the event.
From 30th September to 6th October, designMT will exhibit the works in four different locations around Valletta – the Auberge D’Aragon, Fortress Builders, Spazju Kreattiv at St John’s Cavalier, and the Valletta Design Cluster.
“This first edition will feature four exhibitions each showcasing a diverse collection of contemporary design pieces, carefully selected for their blend of functionality, style, and cultural significance, reflecting modern living in a meaningful way,” the event states.
“The exhibitions will be complemented by thematic events that delve into contemporary design trends and innovative advancements, with discussions focused on the fields where design significantly shapes our daily experiences, namely spatial design, food and beverage, digital design, and fashion and lifestyle.”
Among the list of exhibitors is ceramic artist Nico Conti, curator Lisa Gwen Chetcuti and artist Chris Chetcuti, research-based architecture and design firm AP Valletta, architect and co-founder of 3DM Architecture Maurizio Ascione, fashion house Luke Azzopardi Studio, jewellery designer Nadège Renée Cassar, ceramic designer Sue Mifsud, and fashion and lifestyle brand Charles & Ron.
The expo is being organised by the Malta Crafts Foundation which promotes the crafts sector in Malta “contributing to the revival, preservation, and long-term sustainability of local artisan skills,” its website states.
