For its debut season on local television, MasterChef Malta sought the expertise of seasoned set and interior designer Carlo Schembri, who drew on elements of the traditional Maltese kitchen coupled with the hallmark characteristics of the MasterChef franchise.
“From concept to creation, our intervention, headed by [artistic director] Carlo Schembri, resulted in a celebration of Maltese artistic culture fused with culinary flair,” shared &Bold Studio, who were responsible for executing the design.
“The concept emerged from a deep admiration for the fusion of Maltese artistic heritage and the intricate workings of the Maltese kitchen.”
The set featured the main kitchen with individual cooking stations, a fully-equipped pantry, an equipment room, the judges’ area and a viewing gallery, all elements of which functioned together to allow for the contestants’ stories to unfold, while allowing for optimal functionality.
“Our challenge was to seamlessly intertwine iconic MasterChef elements with our vision,” the studio adds. “Terracotta tiles, hand-painted ceramic kitchen tops, and natural wood kitchen units laid the foundation, while industrial nods paid homage to MasterChef’s original aesthetic.”
“Metal shelving and wrought iron rails added a contemporary twist, while intricate metal lace designs adorned the backdrop, reflecting both tradition and modernity.”
The show, which got off to a rousing start on local television, is set to return with a second season next year.
