In a bid to break away from the all-white ceramic sanitaryware that have dominated bathroom trends for the past few decades, local and international brands are embracing colour for basins, bath tubs and even toilets.
Here, Design Dispatch hand-picks six lively washbasins available through local retailers that will add a pop of colour to any restroom.
Como by Cast Concrete
The Como range of basins, designed and handmade in Malta by Cast Concrete in collaboration with design studio Solid Eye, is manufactured from glass fibre reinforced concrete (GFRC), a durable material that can be cast into any shape for indoor and outdoor use. The range is available in a vast range of colours and three heights – countertop, half totem and full totem – with ample room for customisation. Available at Cast Concrete.
Artis by Villeroy & Bosch
The Artis range by designer Gesa Hansen for Villeroy & Boch is a vibrant collection available in 10 two-tone colours. The surface-mounted basin, available in round, oval, square and rectangular shapes, is made with the brand’s TitanCeram material, which allows for precise designs and defined edges, as well as high material strength. Available at Bathroom Design.
Bespoke by Burlington
The vintage-style basin by UK brand Burlington offers a revival of the bathroom designs of the early- to mid-1900s, when colourful sanitaryware in saccharine pastel shades were the order of the day. In this collection, colours ranging from Alaska Blue to Confetti Pink in the brand’s popular Edwardian basin deliver on character and charm.
Apollo by Claybrook
The utilitarian simplicity of the Apollo basin by British brand Claybrook is inspired by the butler sinks that were popular at the turn of the 20th century. The basin and upstand are made from the brand’s own MarbleForm materials, a moulded stone technology that gives each item a neat and sculptural quality.
Dream by Ceramica Galassia
Designed by Antonio Pascale for Ceramica Galassia, the Dream range of free-standing basins combines practical shapes and soft lines, as well as comfort and ease of use with its wide dimensions. The basin is available in two finishes and eight colours, including olive green, deep purple and a moody blue. Available at S&S Bathrooms.
Pesquera by The Bath Collection
The vibrant Pesquera top-counter washbasin by Spanish brand Bathco (full name The Bath Collection) is a combination of cement and terrazzo, giving it an additional layer of durability and a smooth finish. Pesquera comes in a variety of colours, including this playful rust option alongside other neutral varieties. Available at Josies Bathroom Centre.
