Old porcelain, fabric archives, antiques and discoveries made while travelling inspire the designs of London Basin Company, a brand that creates bathroom basins, as well vanity units, taps and mirrors in a distinct and playful style.
The brand, founded by an interior designer and her daughter, seeks to replace “cold, characterless monochrome” bathrooms with ones that “come alive” through colour, detail and sanitary ware that feature exciting designs.
Among these are Japanese Koi, petal patterns, scalloped edges and hand-painted floral chinoiserie.
“Each one is hand thrown by skilled craftsmen using the finest porcelain, before it is pressed, polished, trimmed, dried and smoothed to perfection,” the brand says.
Various techniques are used to decorate the basins, from engraving to hand-painting, before being fired at 1,300 degrees up to three times, for maximum durability. Through a process referred to as burning, the porcelain is toughened to make it suitable for the demands of daily use.
True to its mission to imbue even the smallest bathrooms with colour and character, the brand introduced the Mini Collection of basins featuring the same level of detailing. Products in this range measure just 32cm wide, and can be paired with a complementary support bracket and wall-mounted tap.
