Nothing can replace the beauty of a real plant – this is a necessary disclaimer, required to temper expectations of just what a fake alternative can offer.
BUT, faux plants are becoming increasingly close to the real deal, which is great news for whoever loves greenery, but doesn’t have the green thumbs to go with it. Or perhaps doesn’t have the right climate in their home to keep plants alive. Or has a child or a pet that can’t resist those swaying leaves.
Which is no reason to have a home devoid of nature, or the next best thing. Here at Design Dispatch, we’ve rounded up some good-looking foliage to consider, to satisfy that yearning for a touch of greenery within your home.
Golden Cane Palm Tree
This two-metre-high palm tree by Nearly Natural features lifelike green leaves and golden fronds, stemming from a bamboo-like trunk with green and yellow tones. It comes complete with a jute planter.
Bamboo
This bamboo tree, which measures 170cm tall, forms part of the Fejka range of artificial plants by IKEA, which includes a broad choice of hanging plants, miniature plants and small trees. This leafy bamboo option is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
Monstera
The lush Monstera is an Instagram darling of late, making this artificial version available at OK Home a desirable choice for anyone wanting a maintenance-free alternative to the real thing. It measures 150cm high and has flexible stems that can be arranged to your liking.
Rubber plant
A moody plant if there ever was one, this ample rubber plant by The Sill can easily have you fooled with its life-like green and brown-red leaves and natural-looking stems, and commands quite a presence at one metre high.
Watermelon Peperomia
This faux tropical plant, native to the rainforests of South America, gets its name from the striped leaves that resemble the rind of a watermelon. Available at CB2, it bears a striking resemblance to its real-life counterpart.
Plume Grass
Pampas grass is another social feed favourite that has become a widely used choice for interior decorating. With warm, brown plumes and measuring 120cm high, this potted option available at Sherries Estates is a realistic close contender.
