Villa Bologna Pottery launched a new collection of tableware, candleholders and decorative lamps designed by Suzanne Sharp, co-founder of The Rug Company, featuring vivid summer colours inspired by the Mediterranean.
“Suzanne’s lifelong love for Villa Bologna Pottery and the Mediterranean has inspired the timeless pieces, as well as our passion for design and traditional craftsmanship,” the pottery shared, adding that each piece is “designed to bring warmth and a sense of tranquillity to your home.”
The hand-painted range of tableware, which includes ceramic platters, side and dinner plates as well as serving bowls, features a trellis pattern in rich shades of blue and green, “which takes inspiration from Suzanne’s travels to the Mediterranean.”
Suzanne, the creative force behind the rug business she co-founded with her husband Christopher Sharp in 1997, brought her trademark modern aesthetic informed by history, architecture and the arts to a number of decorative objects for the home, such as the elegant Colonna candlestick in cream that brings a touch of sophistication with its classical colonnade design.
“I always design things that I would like for myself. I imagine them in my home and how I would use them. It was a very hands-on project working with the talented team at Villa Bologna Pottery. I’m delighted with the collaboration,” she shared.
Forming part of the collection is the Amphora lamp, available in emerald green or cream, which invokes a sense of history and elegance with its rounded form and scroll detail, while the Oasis lamp base created by the pottery’s skilled local artisans conjures scenes of “the swaying palm trees that fringe the coastline of Malta.”
The collection forms part of a milestone year for the pottery. Established in 1924 within the sprawling grounds of the 18th-century Villa Bologna, its handmade pieces, which have taken pride of place in many a Maltese home, continue to be sought after for their classic-meets-contemporary aesthetic and quality, made-in-Malta production.
