Multi-disciplinary designer and photographer Sarah Scicluna is set to launch her first visual storybook, titled ‘Intimate Summer’, which captures the mood, familiarity and essence of summer life on the island.
The event, taking place on 14th April, will reveal a visual account of a single summer as felt and seen through her lens – from still beach scenes to spontaneous portraits of children splashing, adults diving and elderly men and women lapping up the sun.
In her announcement on Instagram, Sarah shares how ‘Intimate Summer’ is “a project close to my heart which delves into the profound impact of a single summer, evoking feelings of love, loss, and joy in the familiar embrace of home.”
“At its core, ‘Intimate Summer’ is a 52-page photo book that explores human emotion and personal growth.”
Working predominantly with film, Sarah’s photography elicits feelings of nostalgia through the ordinary, habitual and at times inner experiences of her subjects captured in their moment – whether it’s a shot of a stranger walking on the rocks with a folding chair in tow, or a portrait of a woman emerging from the water.
At the launch event, which is being held at Big Ron’s in Ta’ Xbiex, the first 100 copies of the zine, along with some prints and postcards, will be available to buy.
