Watercolour artist Kenneth Zammit Tabona’s whimsy world of Maltese and Mediterranean interiors could now grace your dinner table through a creative collaboration with Villa Bologna Pottery – the century-old pottery that forms part of the baroque Villa Bologna estate in Attard.
Described as a “celebration of art and tradition”, the Melita collection brings the artist’s signature style to a series of decorative plates, each representing a season and executed in a single shade of blue.
“I have a ginormous soft spot for ceramics and porcelain. So when Sophie [Edwards] approached me to design for Villa Bologna Pottery, it was like a marriage made in heaven,” says Kenneth.
The collection includes 20 original designs in a classic palette of blue and white “reflecting both his personal preference and Villa Bologna’s heritage style,” the pottery shares. Each design is distinct yet unified by common elements extracted from the original artworks the collection is based on.
Each piece, hand-painted and handcrafted at the pottery, invites collectors to experience the changing seasons through Kenneth’s artistic lens, “bringing a touch of Maltese storytelling and heritage into your home”.
For the artist, celebrated for his evocative depictions of Maltese homes, interiors, gardens and landscapes, the joy of this collaboration is in seeing his ideas come to life in a new medium.
“My art makes me happy and fulfilled,” he says. “And I hope that anyone who chooses a piece from this collection will feel just as happy and fulfilled, whether it’s a watercolour or a plate.”
