Strutturi – Thomas Scerri
In Strutturi, a solo exhibition by Thomas Scerri at Il-Kamra ta’ Fuq, the artist reflects on a yearning for an urban landscape that allows for “spaces that breathe, that offer respite and that actively contribute to mental well-being”. Curated by Melanie Erixon, this body of work analyses the “relentless proliferation of senseless construction”, and invites viewers to reflect on the impact of the built environment on the collective psyche. Until 16th February.
The voice of Leda – Wioletta Kulewska Akyel
Abstract forms and vivid colors challenge the Greek mythological tale of Leda and the Swan in The voice of Leda, a solo exhibition being held at MUZA by Wioletta Kulewska Akyel, who focuses on Leda’s story with the aim of presenting a contemporary understanding of the experiences of women. “The shifting forms and colours within her paintings exude a meaning and feeling that surpass simple story-telling, and enable a shift in our understanding of myth-making.” 7th February-16th March.
Wastelands – Peter Seychell
Self-taught artist Peter Seychell is showing his latest body of works, titled Wastelands, at The Phoenicia Malta throughout the month, focusing on the intricate relationship between humanity and the natural environment. Curated by Prof. Charlene Vella, the collection of paintings with a winter theme “reflects nature’s fragility and resilience. His somewhat surreal landscapes are dreamt up in his mind’s eye and an exercise of expressing through art an untamed emotion.” Until 2nd March.
Pixels on a Picnic – Elisa Von Brockdorff
In her latest photography series, Elisa Von Brockdorff eliminates the boundaries between light, form, materiality and imagination, and invites viewers to explore the playful idea of “what happens when pixels go on a picnic”. The dynamic presence of light takes centre stage in this series, which will be exhibited at Splendid in Valletta, combined with a mix of analogue filters, highly reflective surfaces and peculiar objects that the artist uses to create ambiguous visual narratives. 7th-27th February.
Fragments – Mariah Borg
In this immersive, multi-sensory exhibition by artist Mariah Borg taking place at Spazju Kreattiv, the non-linear process of healing from adversity is explored through large-scale paintings and modern digital animation. The exhibition, curated by Raphael Vella, conveys the nuanced emotions and stages of healing, depicting ‘in-between moments’ of realisation and action that aim to foster a deeper understanding of the complexities of human resilience. 14th February-13th March.
