Clean | Clear | Cut – Malta Biennale 2026
The second edition of the Malta Biennale will kick off in March and run for 11 weeks, transforming the Maltese islands into a melting pot of international artistic activity. This year’s theme, ‘Clean | Clear | Cut’, questions how contemporary art can enhance critical awareness of our past and present, while fostering the experience and enjoyment of beauty. A total of eight national pavilions will complement 19 thematic pavilions across 11 venues managed by Heritage Malta. Artists Vince Briffa, Pierre Portelli, Victor Agius, Roderick Camilleri and Gulja Holland will participate in Malta’s pavilion, on display at MUŻA. 11th March-29th May.
For want of (Not) Measuring
In this eclectic exhibition curated by artist Vince Briffa, the role of measurement in art and how this impacts the way we perceive the world is explored by a group of local and international artists, who investigate the problematic and poetic use of systems and measurement. The project challenges the traditional view of measurement as a purely objective tool for understanding and delves into the ways in which it can be used, particularly in relation to time, space, and memory through various art forms, including drawing, painting, film and sound. 12th March-3rd May.
Dormiveglia – Wioletta Kulewska Akyel
Wioletta Kulweska Akyel presents ‘Dormiveglia’ at Studio 87 in Valletta, curated by Justine Balzan Demajo, reimagining the ancient technique of fresco within a contemporary context. Fresco painting demands discipline and technical mastery, where each brushstroke applied to wet plaster is unchangeable. The artist draws on her travels and lived experiences, creating compositions that feel both intimate and culturally layered, inviting the viewer to reflect on the act of painting itself and the enduring quality of a moment made permanent. 6th-27th March.
Materia Prima – Joyce Camilleri
A solo exhibition by Joyce Camilleri opens its doors at Jo Borg Gallery in Sliema as part of the programme of satellite events of the Malta Biennale 2026. The artist’s work embodies a distinct form of radicality – her work refuses inward-looking conceptualisation, instead engaging directly with worldly realities: the inevitable friction of creation, the unique qualities of her materials, and the temporal demands of making. What emerges is a pictorial space suspended between representation and abstraction. 14th March-25th April.
Surface Tension - Daria Troitskaia
Italy-based photographer Daria Troitskaia is exhibiting a collection of photographs at The Grist, a contemporary art Gallery at Farsons’ The Brewhouse in collaboration with Bored Peach Club. Curated by Fabrizio Mifsud Soler, Surface Tension explores landscapes from above, photographed from helicopters, focusing on the fragile meeting points between water, ice and land. The series reflects the photographer’s interest in transforming recognisable environments into near-abstract surfaces, captured across Malta, Mauritius, Iceland, Switzerland and Italy. 12th March-10th April.
Thanks to Jane – Charlotte Adams
Through black and white medium-format portraits, video projection and layered sound, this solo exhibition by Charlotte Adams honours the Jane Collective, a group of women who risked everything to provide education, counselling and safe abortions in trying circumstances. Thanks to Jane draws parallels between past and present, commenting on Malta’s current stance on reproductive rights, while asking: what has really changed? 4th March-12th April
States of Matter – Luca Indraccolo

Luca Indraccolo presents a selection of figurative works that explore how an image evolves through repeated interpretation at Il-Kamra ta’ Fuq in Mqabba, curated by Melanie Erixon. Oil paintings, drawings, and drypoint intaglios return to the same motifs while shifting medium, scale, format, and use of colour. Rather than depicting literal physical transformation, these variations suggest changing emotional and psychological states, revealing how subtle decisions can alter the tone, structure, and meaning of a figure. 27th February-15th March.
