Colour, Form & Composition: Milton Avery
The Malta International Contemporary Arts Space (MICAS) in Valletta is hosting a rare and unique showcase of modern and contemporary art from seven major global artists – Nicolas Party, Henni Alftan, March Avery, Jonas Wood, Gary Hume, Harold Ancart and Andrew Cranston – alongside 30 works of master American colourist Milton Avery. This is only the second retrospective on the prolific 20th-century artist to be held in Europe, following a display in London in 2022, making it “a significant, one-of-a-kind exhibition for Malta.” Read more here. Until 4th April 2026.
In the absence of words – Lisa Galea
“The exhibition ‘In the absence of words’ is meant to be a sanctum, a quiet spiritual space of vibrant colours in motion. It is a space where art can be appreciated in silence, just the way it was created,” says Lisa Galea on her upcoming solo exhibition of abstract paintings on display at Bizzilla Art Gallery in Floriana. The artist intentionally steers clear from explaining or describing her body of work using words, instead allowing the harmony of her vibrant colours to speak for themselves. 7-27th November.
Incunabula 1474-2025 – Francesca Balzan
Sculptor Francesca Balzan presents a new body of work in her upcoming solo exhibition at the National Library in Valletta, Incunabula 1474-2025 curated by Justine Balzan Demajo, inspired by the Malta National Library’s earliest collection of printed books. 3D printed sculptures made from porcelain are individually sculpted by her hands, intentionally confronting the digital process and sparking a dialogue between two technological revolutions: the dawn of printing in Europe in the 15th century and the rise of contemporary 3D printing. 14th November-12th December.
Burning Waters – Arcangelo Sassolino
In direct dialogue with the legacy of Victor Pasmore, and through contrasting materials, methods, and eras, contemporary artist Arcangelo Sassolino explores themes of transformation, instability, and the elemental forces that shape both nature and human experience in his exhibition at the Victor Pasmore Gallery in Valletta. Curated by Keith Sciberras, these pieces emerge from the artist’s 2022 installation Diplomazija Astuta for the Malta Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Until 3rd January 2026.
Rendered – Gabriel Spiteri
Artist Gabriel Spiteri is showcasing a collection of paintings and drawings at Wignacourt Museum in Rabat, titled Rendered. The exhibition brings together a collection of his realistic works that explore form, texture, and the beauty of observation in everyday objects– “each piece capturing moments shaped by hand and heart.” 8th-28th November.
The Ship (Unseen) – Matthew Attard
The Ship (Unseen) by Matthew Attard is a reimagined version of The Ship, the project that represented Malta in the Maltese pavilion at the 2024 Venice Art Biennale. The artist explores the interaction of historic ship graffiti, contemporary painting, and digital technology where by examining a historical image through eye-tracking equipment as a drawing tool, he provokes reflections on contemporary reliance on digital technology. The exhibition, being held at the Inquisitor’s Palace in Birgu, is part of RETOLD, an Arts Council Malta initiative that showcases projects by Maltese artists who successfully exhibited abroad. Until 4th January 2026.
