Ferraracasa, as a family-run business focusing on design and furniture, prides itself in its continuous ability to innovate and adapt with changing interior needs.
The showroom, based in Valley Road, Birkirkara, has established itself as a leading supplier since the company’s inception in the late 1970s. Since then, Ferraracasa has evolved, focusing on a vast number of areas in design and furnishings.
Hannah Cutajar Francica talks about her new role as Co-director and vision for the company with DesignDispatch as she takes the helm as part of its third generation of owners.
Evolving whilst respecting legacy
Hannah’s life has always intersected with the family business, stressing the importance of taking on new roles. “Ferraracasa has always been part of my life, but joining the business was a conscious decision rather than an expectation,” Hannah says.
“Before taking on this role, I worked across different areas of the company — from accounts and showroom management to sales,” she notes, adding that her background as a make-up artist fuelled her creativity, teaching her about colour theory and working with clients, leading her to understand that “good design should feel personal.”
At this juncture in her journey, Hannah is driven to contribute to the future of a business that has been built over generations.
“There is a common belief that third-generation family businesses struggle to evolve. I see that not as a statistic, but an opportunity to prove that respecting tradition and embracing change can successfully coexist.”
Design choices with intention
With changing needs of consumers, Ferraracasa adapts its furnishing products to compliment more compact living spaces. “Modern homes demand smarter design rather than simply smaller furniture,” Hannah says.
“Clients want every square metre to serve a purpose while maintaining a sense of openness and calm. Our approach always starts with understanding how people live. Rather than focusing on individual pieces, we look at how the entire space functions.”
“Custom-made solutions allow us to maximise storage, improve circulation and create interiors that feel effortless without appearing overcrowded,” she notes. “As someone raising two young children, I also appreciate how quickly a home’s needs can evolve. A well-designed space should adapt to different stages of life while remaining timeless.”
Ferraracasa offers versatile and highly customisable furnishings, particularly its kitchens that also serve as multipurpose spaces intended for cooking, experimentation, socialising and sharing. As client needs change over time, such adaptivity becomes key.
“The biggest shift I’ve noticed is that people are becoming less trend-driven and more intentional in their choices,” Hannah says. “Warm natural materials, textured finishes and earthy colour palettes continue to dominate because they create spaces that feel welcoming and timeless.”
“People are becoming more confident in adding personal touches that reflect their lifestyle rather than following a particular style too closely. I think we’re moving towards interiors that balance simplicity with character, creating homes that feel authentic rather than staged.”
Hannah also reflects on the power of colour and material as a driver for authenticity. With wood, stone textures and warm metallic materials combined with taupe, warm greys and earthy tones to compliment, interiors are likelier to age beautifully.
“Rather than fitting into one design category, homeowners are creating spaces that reflect their personalities,” Hannah says.
Designing homes for daily life
Ferraracasa, through its inter-generational team of Directors, continues to provide innovative solutions for spaces whilst retaining its authenticity.
“Our vision is to continue building on the values that have earned our clients’ trust while evolving with the way people live today. That means combining quality craftsmanship with innovation, technology and a highly personalised design experience”
On a personal note, as a woman working in a traditionally male-dominated industry, Hannah is keen to lead a new era of Ferraracasa through knowledge, consistency, dedication and continuous learning.
“Ultimately, I want Ferraracasa to be recognised not only for beautiful furniture, but for helping clients create homes that genuinely improve their everyday lives,” Hannah says.
“In an increasingly competitive market, we believe that exceptional design alone is no longer enough. Success lies in delivering a seamless experience — from the initial consultation and design process through to installation and dedicated after-sales support,” she concludes.
“As a team, we remain closely involved at every stage, ensuring each project is managed with care, attention to detail and the level of service our clients have come to expect. Alongside this commitment, my ambition is to help ensure the business continues to evolve and thrive for generations to come.”
