AJ Design Studio is a Malta-based interior design practice redefining the way design is conceived, experienced, and shared. Founded by two young designers with a passion for art, architecture, and innovation, the studio specialises in high-end residential, hospitality, commercial, and public-sector projects, creating spaces that combine functionality, craftsmanship, and timeless aesthetics.
The foundations of the studio were established when its founders met while studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Spatial Planning at MCAST. United by a shared creative vision, they later pursued their respective professional paths before coming together to establish AJ Design Studio.
This vision was further enriched through Jean D’Alfonso’s postgraduate studies in Interior Design in Florence, Italy, where he spent two years immersed in one of the world’s most influential centres of art, architecture, and design.
The knowledge, inspiration, and design philosophy gained from Florence continue to shape the studio’s identity, bringing an international perspective to projects across Malta.
Today, AJ Design Studio is particularly recognised for its work on luxury villas, townhouses, houses of character, apartments, and boutique hospitality developments.
Every project is approached as a unique story, carefully crafted through a deep understanding of the client’s lifestyle, aspirations, and the character of the space itself.
AJ Design Studio was founded by Jean D’Alfonso and Alessandro Cassar who share a passion for design, architecture, art, and the built environment. The two founders developed a strong creative partnership that would later evolve into the studio they lead today.
Having studied art alongside their academic design education, the founders approach each project with a strong appreciation for creativity, composition, colour, materiality, and storytelling. Their work seeks to move beyond conventional interior design by creating spaces that are both functional and emotionally engaging.
As young entrepreneurs aged 25 and 26, they bring a fresh outlook and contemporary vision to the industry. They believe that the future of design lies in challenging established norms while remaining respectful to context, craftsmanship, and client needs.
Their energy, combined with professional expertise and international experience, has enabled the studio to develop a distinctive design language within the local market.
Supported by a multidisciplinary team of architects, designers, and project managers, AJ Design Studio continues to deliver innovative and highly-personalised spaces that reflect its commitment to creativity, quality, and forward-thinking design.
