Another World Beyond: The Art of Joseph L. Mallia
In this retrospective exhibition spanning over 60 years of Joseph Lawrence Mallia’s career, visitors are guided from his early figurative studies and still lifes, to Maltese landscapes and cityscapes, and later to abstract works and self-portraits. ‘Another World Beyond’, on display at MUZA in Valletta, reveals Mallia’s lifelong interest in structure, balance, and reflection, inviting viewers to look beyond the visible world into the patterns and questions that shaped his art. Until 9th November.
Reflections on Porcelain – Nico Conti
In his first solo exhibition currently being held at the Malta Society of Arts in Valletta, internationally recognised Maltese artist Nico Conti invites visitors on a sensory journey into his world of porcelain, created through a fusion of traditional craft and cutting-edge 3D printing technology. “Many people only know [porcelain] from plates or figurines, but here they will see it transformed. The show is not just about objects, it is about experiences. Porcelain can become lace, stone, memory, or light.” Until 23rd October.
We Sit in Rows – Celia Borg Cardona
This solo exhibition by Celia Borg Cardona marks the artist’s return to the art world after a three-year hiatus. On display at 1926 La Galerie in Valletta is a collection of new works that captures the quiet tension, intimacy, and rhythm of theatre audiences seen from above. The exhibition’s setting – directly across from the Manoel Theatre – is particularly resonant, underscoring the thematic connection between viewer and viewed, stage and seat, artist and audience. Until 25th October.
Heartlands – Jo Scicluna & Sean Meilak
Heartlands, an exhibition at Marie Gallery 5 in Sliema, brings together Jo Scicluna and Sean Meilak, two Melbourne-based artists whose Maltese heritage integrates through their artistic practice in distinct yet connected ways. The exhibition is both an arrival and an unfolding, a moment where ancestral place, lived experience, and material histories are set in dialogue. Malta is not only the homeland remembered through generations of migration, but also as a place marked by centuries of settlement, layering, and transformation. Until 22nd November.
The Spaces Between Us
In The Spaces Between Us, Jake Gialanzè explores the often-overlooked reality of social housing in Malta through his photography on display at Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta. Inspired by a loved one’s childhood in a housing estate, the project captures the hardship as well as the quiet strength of community life, while reflecting on how visible neglect can echo deeper social issues while honouring the resilience found within these communities. 9th October-30th November.
New Arrangements – Nico Krijno
Marking a new collaboration between Gozo-based art space Bored Beach Club and The Brewhouse is an exhibition by South African artist Nico Krijno. For his Malta debut, being held at The Brewhouse, the artist brings a vibrant body of work that reimagines the photograph as something in motion. Images bend and fold as familiar objects such as flowers and vases dissolve into layered, shifting compositions through a mix of studio photography, digital layering, and painterly manipulation. Until 7th November.
