The luminaires designed by Occhio – a brand that blends German technology with the sophistication of Italian design – are unlike most others. Driven by what they term as the culture of light, the design of each piece is underpinned by beauty and quality – and equipped with superior, intuitive functions.
As the newest member to exclusively join the growing portfolio of lighting company Glow, founder and managing director Matthew Grech hails it as “probably the best lighting brand for high-end lighting available on the market. This is evident in the quality, technology, design and pricing.”
“Having worked in the lighting industry for almost 15 years, and with a portfolio of brands exceeding 30, I can say that Occhio tops them all. For anyone searching for the highest level of luxury in lighting, there is nowhere else to look.”
Next level lighting
Founder and Designer Axel Meise’s inspiration behind Occhio, established in 1999, was simple: to create a holistic luminaire portfolio which is consistent in design, material and quality of light – and provides the perfect lighting solution for every situation in private and commercial living spaces.
Designed to be “as brilliant as sunlight”, Occhio measures itself against one benchmark: the sun. “It has a Colour Rendering Index (CRI) of 100. In simple terms, sunlight contains the complete visible spectrum and therefore all colours perceptible to the human eye. Occhio’s LEDs come incredibly close to this with a standard CRI of 97.”
With its accurate colour rendering that may be programmed to follow the lighting colour throughout the day, users perceive their surroundings as they would in daylight – from natural skin tones to colours as nuanced and deep as those found in nature. Known as circadian lighting, the system is designed to mimic natural daylight patterns, supporting the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle, or circadian rhythm.
Highly adjustable
Occhio’s modularity makes it tuneable to suit the mood, occasion and time of day, not only in intensity but also colour temperature.
Using the brand’s own Bluetooth-powered controller, Occhio Air – which can be used from anywhere, independently of any home automation system, via tablet, smartphone or controller – the colour tune function allows you to adjust the colour from cool light for focused work to warm sunset tones for evenings at home.
Exchangeable optical components (such as lenses, inserts and colour filters) have the power to create diverse lighting effects, always with precise, glare-free optics that never dazzle the eyes.
A unique up/down fading feature allows for lighting to be drawn upwards or downwards in luminaires with a double-sided light output – using a single hand gesture.
In other models, touchless control enables light to be adjusted as if through a magical gesture. Dim the light, direct it up or down, or change its colour temperature with a hovering hand movement that’s easily received by the light’s intuitive build.
Timeless forms
Every component of Occhio’ luminaires are designed with restrained elegance, intended to enhance surroundings and become key interior fixtures in their own right. A sophisticated reel mechanism ensures that electrical cables disappear out of sight into the canopy and float parallel to the ground at the desired height.
With a complete collection capable of transforming an entire residence, including recessed ceiling, suspended, wall, floor and table lamps, Occhio’s museum-grade lighting and luxurious, seamless fittings take lighting experiences to a whole new level. Take a closer look at some of its most popular families.
Mito
Whether wall-mounted or suspended, Mito is the picture of fine design, crafted as elaborately as a piece of jewellery. Available in eight bespoke colours, including rose gold and bronze, it’s a conversation piece in its own right, only heightened by its impressive features, including the optional height adjustment where the fitting seamlessly disappears into the soffit at the swipe of a hand.
Luna
The mysterious form of Luna makes it a masterpiece of lighting technology. Featuring a fireball light source seemingly floating in a mirrored glass sphere, it creates a unique lighting ambience that can be changed at any time. Typically used as a group of spheres, Luna combines the classical and modern in a meld of metal and glass with high-gloss finishes in dark chrome or black phantom.
Sento
Among the various iterations of the more technical Sento is the verticale range, a wall-mounted fixture that shines an unmistakable lighting design on walls – just like a work of art. The two lenses of the rotatable LED luminaire create the characteristic light cones on the wall, which can be altered with different optical components and adjusted separately using touchless control.
Ina Treska, lighting designer and Occhio’s representative in Malta, has immersed herself in the brand’s world to understand the unique possibilities of its luminaires – an experience she calls a privilege and a pleasure. “Quality of light means quality of life – and I’m excited to present and share all the beauty and extraordinary features of Occhio at Glow.”
These can be discovered in a unique, dedicated space within Glow’s showroom in Pieta to experience the brand’s quality luminaires first hand – and understand what sets them apart. Get in touch with Ina for a private viewing.
