With the launch of its latest furniture collection unveiled last week during Milan Design Week, Swedish furniture giant IKEA proved its creative prowess by appealing to a specific group of consumers – gamers – with a line of products that harnesses a universal appeal.
Subverting the typically stark and edgy-style gaming furniture, IKEA opened the door to the possibility of furniture for gamers that can double up as contemporary home décor – blending into a home’s shared spaces rather than standing out.
The Brännboll collection includes 20 items, many of which are seating options, but also includes a desk, accessories and storage solutions in IKEA’s trademark style that is aesthetically simple and Scandinavian, “designed to not only improve the gaming experience but also support everyday scenarios beyond gameplay.”
Philip Dilé, Product Design Developer at IKEA says “With BRÄNNBOLL, we are embracing the idea that gaming is for everyone and belongs everywhere in the home. It’s about making it simple for people to create spaces that adapt to gaming, living, and everything in between.”
“We hope this collection will encourage friends and families to engage together, bringing joy and connection through shared gaming experiences.”
Among the selection of ergonomic chairs is an inflatable doughnut chair that comes with a footstool which is embedded inside its centre, a rocking-style chair that moves with the user’s body during active gaming sessions, as well as an armchair on wheels that extends into a lounge chair (main image).
The collection, which will be available from September, also features a gaming station, equipped with a foldable tabletop, integrated PC tower storage and cable management that can be closed away into a discreet, wardrobe-style storage unit.
“BRÄNNBOLL challenges traditional gaming design, moving away from the typical thematic and darker-toned aesthetics. Instead, the collection introduces vibrant colours and elements inspired by street sports and athleisure,” the brand says.
“This creates a unique, playful look that combines the energy and dynamism of athletics with the comfort and performance essential for gaming.”
