From a pale blue to an almost-black shade of grey, the Colour of the Year choices by top paint and interior brands are as divergent as they are daring – and we’ve rounded up our favourites to inspire your next home project.
Upward by Sherwin Williams
US paint brand Sherwin-Williams announced its colour of the year through a popular pastry, a cronut, glazed in its pale, periwinkle-blue colour choice, called Upward. “This denim blue with calm grey undertones will have you dreamily adrift in the stratosphere,” the company announced. “Pair this light neutral with a cool pastel to complete the effect.”
Cracked Pepper by Behr
On the other end of the spectrum, paint company Behr announces a 2024 colour of the year that is dark, bold and veering towards the darkest colour on the chart. It’s called Cracked Pepper, and is described as a soft shade of black that is versatile, confident and pairs well with many other colours that may already be present in the home.
Viridis by Graham & Brown
British interiors brand Graham & Brown’s choice of colour and design for 2024 are both positively nature-inspired. Its wallpaper choice, New Eden, features a hand-painted forestscape in emerald green, while its colour choice is a more subdued shade of green, called Viridis, which the company describes as a ‘mid-green’ that complements the vivid shades of New Eden.
Sweet Embrace by Dulux
Dulux’s choice is a fitting one after a year dominated by all shades of bright pink. The paint company announced Sweet Embrace, a soft and flexible tone that oozes positivity and calm within a space. It is also described as a transformative colour that alters with light, shifting from a blush in bright morning light to a warm violet in the evening.
Blue Nova by Benjamin Moore
Sharon Grech, a spokesperson for US paint company Benjamin Moore describes their colour pick for 2024 as an “eye-catching blue” with a sumptuous quality. Blue Nova, which comes across as a versatile shade with lilac undertones, is “a midtone hue. It’s not too dark; it’s not too light. So it really doesn’t just fall into the background, but rather it holds our attention with its personality”.
Ironside by Dutch Boy
With a legacy that extends more than a century, Dutch Boy paints knows its trade, and forecasted a strong colour by the name of Ironside as its colour of the year in 2024. “Ironside is the perfect backdrop for showcasing furniture, art and accessories,” the brand says, describing its deep olive green colour choice as one that brings a sense of sophisticated comfort to the spaces in which its used.
