Villa Bologna Pottery launched a capsule collection in collaboration with Barcelona-born artist Alvaro Picardo, who transforms simple white lampshades into colourful decorative pieces for the home.
The collection comprises a series of hand-painted lampshades with bespoke designs inspired by the Mediterranean, as seen in the Odysseus Lampshade in sea blue.
“These sea blue waves have been inspired by Alvaro’s love for the art of Ancient Greece. We love how this design brings to life the rolling waves of the Mediterranean Sea and the unpredictable temperament of the waters that surround our island, Malta,” the pottery brand says.
The Folly Lampshade, featuring long fronds in different shades of green, was inspired by the pattern formed by the leaves that sprout from a pineapple. While sold separately, it complements the ceramic Pineapple lamp created at Villa Bologna’s pottery studio.
Alvaro takes pride in using humble materials “to give forgotten pieces a new lease of life”. He describes how his bespoke, hand-painted lampshades represent a new chapter for him, and an opportunity to express his creativity through visual objects that often get overlooked.
The limited-edition lampshades are available to purchase at Villa Bologna Pottery in Attard as well as at the brand’s London store.
