What’s chunky yet soft and resembles a rope but also the weave pattern of a comfy knitted garment? The Knitty chair – a larger-than-life armchair designed by Nika Zupanc for Mooi, a Dutch furniture and interiors company.

Knitty is a product of a playful sense of scale – the chair’s design is inspired by large ropes and knots used for anchoring ships, as well as the intricate weave pattern used in knitting.

“These two seemingly unrelated things merged in my mind, and the Knitty Lounge Chair was born,” said Zupanc of her latest creation. “The chair is not just a functional piece of furniture; it’s also an object that challenges our perception of scale. But it is also really comfy, generous, and of course, hopefully also very iconic.”
The lounge chair, which is upholstered with a soft knitted fabric that adds warmth and texture, has a sturdy base beneath its ample folds.
Described by Moooi as a chair that’s “about the pleasure of simple materials and transforming them into something unexpected that at first seemed impossible”, Knitty is unquestionably a conversation piece whose grand proportions leave you feeling small in the best possible way.
